When it comes to finding health insurance in the Bluegrass state the options are plentiful. Nobody needs to go without health insurance. With a little reserach you too can find options that meet your needs.

There are about 12% of Kentucky residents that choose to go uninsured. This number is unnecessary! There are many reason to have insurance. Without it you are taking a big financial risk. And studies show that those that are uninsured do not get the health care the need.

One choice you may have is group insurance through your employer. If you have health conditions this may be a perfect option since they must cover that condition. One disadvantage is that you must take the one plan fits all and dependent coverage can be very expensive since your employer typically only shares cost of your premium.

If you need a more affordable option for you or your family or group is not available to you you may want to get individual health insurance offered by most carriers. These plans give you the fredom to choose benefits according to your expectations and budget. On the downside, they do not have to cover pre exisiting conditions. They can even decline you coverage all together.

If you are declined there is another option however. Kentucky has a state risk pool, or Kentucky Access as they call it. This program makes health insurance available to those who would otherwise be declined coverage due to a health condition.

There is also a state plan geared towards getting health insurance for Kentucky children. The Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) is available to children under 18 that are low income. It is a very affordable option for many families.

For those left with no options you should visit your local Kentucky Department of Medicaid Services. They offer government funded options to residents. Qualified people will get health benefits as well as other assistance to help them meet their needs.

So as you see there are too many options to risk not having health insurance. You owe it to yourself to find health insurance. The options are out there. Just take the time to find what meets your needs.
