The economy doesn't look to improve much in the near future and a lot of people are hurting. Many have lost jobs, some feel their on the edge and lot's of people who thought they'd have enough money to retire won't. As people look for good ways to make some extra money many are thinking of starting up an internet business and to tell the truth, it's a pretty good idea.

You have lots of business types to choose from, you can be a single product retailer or open an online store with a theme. You can use the internet to promote and extend a business you already have and best of all, because you can reach around the world with your idea, you can build your business around a niche interest that would never have survived as a brick and mortar business.

For a lot of people, placing themselves in the role of an online business owner is just a little too strange to bite off. Which is too bad - unless of course what they really don't see is that they would ever run any kind of a business. A person who can see them self starting a business- can start up any kind- online or off. And other than the pleasant fact that an internet business is cheaper to start, both types will work for the same kind of person.

Oh yeah..you're wondering about that internet, programming, html thing? I'm guessing that a lot of people are and it holds them back, but it really shouldn't if you have any experience working on a computer already. So many new pieces of software are available to help you start an online business that you don't need to be a 'webmaster' any more.

I know of a woman to had no computer experience at all and went ahead and built a site with one of the new breed of shopping cart/ ecommence packages. I admire her gumption but it's pretty hard to imagine (I feel bad for the people in customer support - they really earned their money with her.) But if you can run Excel or Word, you can do this.

But you MUST be willing to learn - and liking a new learning experience helps too. The learning curve is something of a wild ride, but if it's a pony you haven't been on for a long time, it sure won't hurt to give it a shot. It's a wonderful feeling of achievement to pick up new skills and running a business - online of off- means there's a lot to learn.

Not only do you need to be willing to learn, you have to be willing to work hard. If you already hold a nine to five job, then get ready to give up 80% of the television you watch and most of your weekends for the next 6-8 months. Good thing most of the TV is garbage anyway. You need to apply yourself with a dogged determination. You need to be disciplined and if you're also too dumb to give up, it won't hurt.

Are you reasonably smart, hardworking, persistent and disciplined? Are you ready to learn something new? Do you think of yourself as someone who is good " but not necessarily brilliant- at a lot of things? Will you take a chance and risk failure? If you're all of these things then youre the kind of person who could start up an internet business.
